I thought I’d avoid making a post on this topic, but every day it seems Rob Ford is again in the news, and not for the right reasons. I’m not going to summarize what he’s done to be in the spotlight repeatedly, I’m fairly certain everyone has had enough of him by now. However, it’s difficult to understand how he hasn’t been ousted as mayor of Toronto by now; you’d figure some level of government would have done it by now, but that’s politics for you.
Rob Ford is a disgrace to his city and his country. He has repeatedly proved that he is incapable of maintaining anything near the composure expected of such a figure. As an important figure in politics, you’re expected to be a moral, honest man. He has done completely the opposite on multiple occasions. He is now paying the consequences; his actions are under investigation, and he’s been stripped of a lot of his mayoral powers. It really comes as no surprise, considering what he’s done lately.
Not only did he buy illegal drugs (and involved himselft in numerous illegal activites), he’s also denied the fact for months, before confessing the truth under new evidence, and has the audacity to say that a great burden has been lifted off of him by coming clean. He has used vulgar profanities in public, and has appeared drunk too many times to count in front of cameras. Everything the man does is a disgrace, and is truly disgusting to watch. A simple google search will serve to verify this opinion, which is really now a fact. The most sickening thing for me is that even after all this, he still has the nerve to suggest he’s a role model for children. Mayor Ford, it’ll be a cold day in hell when you’re a role model for anyone.
It baffles me how Ford has not been ousted as the mayor altogether by now by the province of Toronto. I know they don’t want to set a precedent and entangle themselves in a municipal affair, but something has to be done here. Would setting a precedent really hurt in this situation? The only thing that baffles me more than this is how in the world he got elected to office in the first place. He may have been a good politician, but usually the voters can make out a crook when they see one. For now, I really think Ford needs to step aside from his duties and get professional help; it couldn’t be more clear that he desperately needs it. Until he does that, he’ll continue to disgrace his city, his country, and his fellow citizens.
