The Bruins beat the Detroit Red Wings today by a score of 4-2 to win the series 4-1, and will now advance to the next round to play the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs and the Bruins are huge rivals, and the series should be great.
Boston played well today to close the series. All aspects of the team were working well, and in the case of goaltending, were working exceptionally well. The offense was there, the defense was there, and the special teams was there. It was a great all-around game for the Bruins. After losing Game 1 to Detroit, they never really gave Detroit another shot at winning with their dominant playing style, even when they went down 2-0 in Game 4. I was certainly expecting a tougher first round, but Detroit has been plagued by injuries, making it difficult to knock off the best team in the league. Still, Detroit is a great team with a bright future, and I’m happy the Bruins could take them out without too much difficulty.
The Habs swept the Tampa Bay Lightening in Round 1, which was extremely surprising. They’re a good team, but I don’t think they’re good enough to take out Boston. Boston has a lot more depthand experience compared to Montreal, and more importantly, a better blueline. I’m confident the Bruins will defeat the Canadiens. Like Detroit, Montreal won the season series with Boston 3-1, but two of those games were decided by one goal, and Boston just showed that the season series is irrelevant in the playoffs. It’s going to be a great series, and I can’t wait for it to begin!
