There’s been a lot of interesting things going on in the world lately, and I have at last overcome my laziness to address them. I hope this doesn’t turn out too long.
It’s a lose-lose situation. On one side you have an oppressive force that will seemingly stop at nothing until the other party is obliterated, and that other party just happens to be a terrorist group with seemingly more and more support due to the disgusting behavior of the first party. When you realize that that information alone may not even be enough to determine which party is which, you lose a little hope for humanity. Really sickening, what’s going on there. And it all boils down to religion. Every time. Seems no one in the world knows a damn thing about tolerance, even if it means their death. Absolutely disgusting.
Who do I want to see win the conflict? Neither Israel nor Palestine. They’re both at fault, and neither wins my sympathy. If I had my way, I’d watch them both lose…it seems that is the only thing they are capable of doing together. Israel’s actions are oppressive and inhumane to say the least, and the only reason they haven’t faced repercussions from the rest of the world is because they’re backed by America. That being said, Palestine is no better. Hamas is a bloody terrorist organization; that should put into perspective what Israel is doing to achieve the anger of pretty much the whole world. I will support neither group. However, I won’t let that stop me from saying that if the blame lies with anyone in this conflict (while conveniently, albeit foolishly ignoring centuries of history), it is with Israel. They really need to learn what tolerance is, and implement it before they wipe out an entire nation (cue the “It’s not a nation” comments). But they’re the ones with the military might in this case (tips hat to Murica), so the onus is on them to resolve the issue peacefully, because they have the means to do so.
But they won’t. Because when it’s about God, the fighting will never end. Holy shit, the things we could avoid if it weren’t for religion. Till then, I hope the UN can broker some kind of peace…which won’t last, but it’s fun to think about all the same.
It’s been a long time, but the problem isn’t going anywhere. The Ukraine-Russia complex proves to persist, and from what it seems like now, Ukraine is, or soon will be, engulfed in a civil war. Only recently the EU has stepped up sanctions against Russia. Hopefully that’ll work some magic, because right now Putin seems intent on capturing Ukraine. Prince Charles got in some hot water for likening Putin to Hitler, but is he wrong? If Crimea does in fact, after all the smoke settles, become a part of Russia, I don’t think the comparison is too far from the truth. If he wanted to send a message to the West that former USSR satellites will never stray far from the motherland without consequence, he has succeeded greatly. But he hasn’t let up after that, so that makes his motives seem heavily suspect. What with all the sanctions, I genuinely hope we aren’t entering the Cold War 2.0. But sanctions is really all that can be done with Russia, without effectively kickstarting WWIII. I’m sure the whole world hopes (that includes Russian citizens, may I add) that Putin soon smartens up and learns to respect the soveriegnty of a nation (cue the “It’s not a nation” comments). He started it, and now he needs to end it. Sounds childish? It is.
They keep coming, one after the other. I can think of three major ones in the past few months, with a scattering of smaller incidents. I’m predicting that Malaysia Airlines will soon go out of business; even though it isn’t necessarily their fault, there’s no way they can save themselves from the PR disaster caused by the two tragic incidents. And they’ve been especially horrid, too – one plane vanishes, and hasn’t been found for months, and the other shot down by a missile. No recovery. And if it’s true that Russia shot down the commerical jet…well, I don’t see relations between the West and Russia improving anytime soon, to say the least. RIP to everyone who lost their lives in those airplanes. Truly an awful way to go. I’m kind of scared of flying what with all these disasters; Ireally hope we’ve heard the last of them.
Right now experts are saying there’s a low risk of it going global. I hope it’s true. Because it it did…that would be bad. Very, very bad. With this one also, hope we hear the end of it soon.
