I feel better today. Feeling a little less homesick. Hanging out with friends, both old and new, really helps. And just all around getting out of my room takes my mind off of things too, so I’m gonna do that too this week.
But not right now, it’s 11:03 pm…I don’t care how much people party, I still go to bed by 11:30.
So today was the first big day of orientation. It was…really long. Nine hours straight, was, in my opinion, a little more than necessary. But I met knew people (I remember like two names though) and talking to upper year students was great for getting advice on what’s to come and how to handle it. The frosh events themselves were kind of dull, with a lot of obnoxious cheering and…nope, that’s about it. I don’t really want to go to a lot of those, but it is a good way to meet students and to actually do something. So I’ll probably go to most of them. We’ll see.
The weather really sucks here. I thought we had it bad in Calgary, but good Lord Waterloo has it rough. It fluctuates by at least ten degrees during the day, and the humidity is absolutely insane. When it rains, it also pours cats and dogs – just crazy, torrential rain. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately), the buildings (okay one of them but I assume/hope it goes for all) are air conditioned, so you’re not sweating it too hard in classes.
I made a fried egg today. It was almost a disaster, but it turned out alright. I put in too much oil, and because of that it took almost ten minutes to cook. I also didn’t have a salt shaker, so there was too much salt on it. But it was edible and tasted like it may have been made at home, so it was good enough for me. I think tomorrow I’ll really try to cook harder, because I need to used up the boatloads of groceries my parents left me.
So yeah, all in all not a bad day. It was a long day though, so I’m checking in soon. Peace out YYC!
