That’s more like it!
Game 3 seemed a lot like game 1 for Calgary: they got offense, the defense played well, the goaltending was there when it needed to be, and above all, they played a physical game.
Michael Ferland is making a name for himself. I haven’t seen anyone of the Flames play with such an aggresive streak since…actually, as a fan of the Flames, seeing any player consistently finish big checks is a rarity. But it’s great to see from Ferland. We know how important it can be in the playoffs.
Sam Bennett continues to play with all the poise and energy of a player much more experienced than him. Along with the other youthful talent of the Flames, the future will burn bright.
A couple continuing observations. First, the refs are doing anything and everything to hand the series to the Canucks. This isn’t coming is an embittered fan, but some of the calls agains the Flames have been absolutely absurd. Combined with the missed calls on the Canucks, it’s sickeningly pathetic. Really makes me hope the Flames can stick it to the Canucks, the refs and the league.
Also, I hate to state the painfully obvious, but Vancouver continues to amaze with just how dirty and classless they are. Burrows got what he deserved when he received an instigator for challenging Russel for no reason, but the league likes to play favorites and naturally rescinded the call, which would have meant he would be suspended. (Okay, that may be a bit biased considering they did rescind Engelland’s instigator in game 2, but nonetheless, I’m still happy Burrows is going to miss the next game due to injury, and I’m not above saying that karma’s a bitch.) Furthermore, Bieksa should have gotten a misconduct and an instigator for fighting Ferland in the third period. If you watch the replay, it’s clear as daylight that Bieksa dropped the gloves in the middle of play, got three or four sucker punches in before Ferland even dropped his gloves, and then received the same penalty that Ferland did. What angers me more is that the refs did nothing to stop Bieksa from maliciously attacking Ferland, but as soon as he answered the bell, they were quick to break up the fight. And then the bonehead Canucks fans claim that Bieksa would beat Ferland to a pulp in a fair fight. Wow, that kind of stupid just hurts. I always knew the NHL was slightly rigged, but when it’s against your own team, it really pisses you off.
Well, if the Flames win tonight’s game, I’m confident they have the series. It’ll be huge tonight, I can’t wait for it to start. Go Flames Go!
