This one’s more of an update post. I didn’t post for a long time, but now that the study term is over, marks are out, (I successfully passed), and the coop term is about to begin, I’m about to have a lot more time, and I intend to put that to good use. I probably won’t post everyday, but I’ll try to post as often as I can, so long as I have something worth saying (but that’s up to you, I don’t know if any of this is worth saying). Regardless, what with the abundance of time I’m about to encounter, a fair bit of it will go into this blog.
As for the upcoming coop term, I’m going to be in Toronto again, but this time downtown, so hopefull that in and of itself will be fun. I’m not too excited about the job, actually – as I may have written earlier, I regret taking the job offer, as I’m fairly certain I could have gotten something much, much better had I only had a little more patience and confidence in myself. Oh well, gotta make the most of it. My job this time round is QA developer, which is really only a step better than what I did last term. And I do hope that they stay true to that, by the way – I took this job fully expecting that I’d be scripting test scripts (and then maybe running/analyzing the results, not only doing the latter). The salary is absolute trash, though, worse than what I was making last term, and I wasn’t making much to begin with. I try not to think about it.
So yeah, work will be work, and hopefully it goes well, but as I’ve already downplayed any chance of it being any good, I don’t think it can surprise me by being any worse than what I’m expecting. I’m more excited about going to Toronto this time because now I know my way around the city (more than I did last time, at least), I’m rooming with one of my friends from university, who I’m hoping and pretty certain will liven things up (he has a car, too, which is going to be real nice), and because at 19, I can do a lot more now in the city. That doesn’t mean I intend to get smashed every weekend, but it sure does open up a lot more doors, such as bars, clubs and concerts. The weather shouldn’t be too bad for at least the first couple of months, so I’m really hoping to get the most out of the city as I possibly can.
And seeing as the next study term is supposedly the worst, I’m going to do everything in my power to prevent it from completely annihilating me. I know that’s way, way way easier said than done, but I sincerely hope to put in at least one hour of studying per night, just to make it easier when the term begins. I already have access to a wide variety of content, and I plan on starting it on my first work day. I will not let 2A destroy me.
Got a couple side projects lined up this term as well, but I don’t know how far I’ll get into it. First of all, there’s the blog, but that really isn’t much. What I’m really hoping to do is to migrate this site onto its own domain on code that I’ve written myself. Not only should it be extremely educational and (hopefully) fun, my hope is that it helps in the future to nab some better coop jobs. So I’ll try to get that up and running as soon as possible. I’ll try to learn some hardware as well, probaby through an Arduino or something similar, but chances are if I can’t get my hand on something like that soon, I’ll probably just resort to YouTube and library books instead for research. Of everything I plan to do, this is probably the one that’s least likely to actually be done. And finally, I want to tackle as many Project Euler problems as I possibly can, just for practice – my goal is to do one per day, but that might be a little optimistic. I’m going to consult this list frequently and make sure I actually carry out my words instead of stopping here.
That’s it from me for now. There’ll definitely be more content soon!
